Stomach Flu Conditions
Stomach flu is also commonly referred to as gastroenteritis. It is a serious condition that affects the stomach and the intestines. Therefore it only makes sense that you get to know some of the most effective stomach flu conditions.
Stomach Flu is always characterized by inflammation of the affected area and is caused by various pathogens such as bacteria (e.g. Escherichia coli and Salmonella), virus (e.g. rotavirus, adenovirus and norovirus), and other parasites (such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia) that are present in drinking water or food.
Another major non-infectious cause of gastroenteritis is heavy metals poisoning (Arsenic and Lead, among others), seafood or mushrooms. Those who are lactose intolerant can equally suffer from stomach flu after consuming milk or any other dairy product.
The major symptom of stomach flu is diarrhea. Other symptoms vary depending on the organism. Patients with viral infections, suffer from frequent watery stools, while bacterial gastroenteritis is characterized by bloody stools. Others may also suffer from vomiting along with diarrhea.
The other major symptoms of stomach flu include a headache, nausea, and loss of appetite, fever, abdominal pain, weight loss, and inflammation of the colon (colitis) as well as the large intestine. In children, the signs may vary from low fever to fatigue, dark eye circles, pale skin color, dehydration, and vomiting.
